Bantham Boomerang 2022

A sunset swim in the UK’s most beautiful river? Sounds wonderful doesn’t it. Well, the inaugural Bantham Boomerang gave 400 swimmers the chance to experience just that.

The concept is simple. How far can you swim before the tide turns? Starting in the Bantham Estate, swimmers got swept up the river at dusk by the strong waters of the River Avon. The sun gently dropped towards the horizon as the river slowed which the swimmers could sense and feel. The tide turned about an hour and a half later and it became impossible for swimmers to carry on up the estuary. One by one they let the water turn them and carry them back towards the sunset and the stunning Bantham beach.

It was truly magical as swimmers swam anywhere between 2km and 8km making this a great event for all levels of swimmer.
