Volunteer with Level Water

Imagine - you're there at the swim at the crack of dawn and the air's buzzing with anticipation. You see the swimmers arrive, see their breath visible in the cool morning air, hear their nervous chatter. That's where you come in. Imagine being the first reassuring smile they see, registering their names, knowing you're the start of their unforgettable journey.

Or maybe that's you at the finish line, offering hot chocolate to warm them up, congratulating them on their incredible achievement before they settle into a deckchair to enjoy the afternoon.

Maybe you'll be floating 7km along the River Dart, launching jelly babies into the open mouths of determined swimmers, a burst of sugar and joy to fuel their final push.

Every role, every moment you're part of, makes up the memories these swimmers will carry forever.

Join us, and be part of a day filled with laughter and celebration. With the Level Water team and a community of grateful swimmers behind you, you'll feel the love and appreciation that makes every moment worth it.

Together, we will make our events truly unforgettable.

What does it Involve?

View some of our roles in the descriptions below

  • Your role is to greet the swimmers with a big smile and make sure they have everything they need to swim.

You'll be one of the first people the swimmers meet, so a warm and enthusiastic welcome will make all the difference.

  • Your role is to prepare hot chocolate (or alternatives) in the large insulated flasks. You'll hand out full cups of hot drinks to swimmers as soon as they arrive back in the village after the swim.

Part of this role may involve looking after the rewarming area near the hot drinks. Check on any cold swimmers and ask if they would like a hot drink brought in.

  • This is a key role helping to keep the traffic flowing in and around the event. Once allocated a post you'll be welcoming everyone with smiles, congratulating them on their arrival and offering guidance on travel and parking.

Volunteering in these roles is a support role to our official Traffic Management organisation.

  • Your role will be helping swimmers out of the water and collecting their wristbands/timing chips. There are land-based, and shallow water-based positions in this role.

If you are happy to be partially in the water, we would suggest wearing a wetsuit, or clothes and footwear that you don’t mind getting wet. Many of the swimmers will be tired and a little unsteady on their feet, so you’ll be there to lean on and walk out of the water with. Expect to receive lots of damp hugs too!

  • Swimmers can drop their small bags at the start of the swim. This means they can keep their belongings up until a few minutes before getting in the water. Their bags will then be driven to the finish for them to collect after their swim.

This role is split into two positions.

    1. You'll be helping at the start of the swim collecting bags, checking the swimmers tag has been attached, and loading these into the bag drop van. You'll be helping at the end of the swim, unloading the bags from the van and sorting into number order to make it easy and quick for the swimmer to collect their bag after they have finished.

What are the benefits?

So many benefits. You'll be exploring one of the country's most breathtaking spots whilst feeling the gratitude and love from us and all the swimmers. You’ll also receive a lovely gift from Level Water, our way of saying thanks for your invaluable support.

Plus, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped these events succeed, which means more funds for swimming lessons for children with disabilities.

By taking part you are giving those children the opportunity to learn to swim and fall in love with the water. An amazing gift.

What’s it like to volunteer at the Dart10k

From Everyday Athlete Rach

“I volunteered at the #Dart10K a swim event from Totnes to Greenway in Devon run by ‪@LevelWaterSwim‬ with around 1600 participants. I've never volunteered at a large event before and was amazed at the variety of roles available. Here I try to capture the different motivations and give a flavour of what it was like.”
