24hr Swim Relay: Shepperton 2022
The first ever 24hr Swim Relay at Shepperton Lake was a truly magical day. 80 teams and 500 swimmers camped out for the weekend, swam for an hour each for 24 hours and raised over £120,000.
Events like this don’t come along very often. Mother nature blessed us with the perfect conditions. The water was warm and clear. And there was excitement in the air from the moment the first few swimmers started to arrive. Tents were built and little communities for the weekend started to form. Eventually it felt like we’d created a small town of like minded people who all knew what they were about to take on. A truly epic swim.
There was something that really stood out for me, that dawned on me about 4am when the fire had been lit and the guitar was out. How many events are there where a 14 year old and an 80 year old and an ironman and a new swimmer can all take part, together, on the same team, with the same goal? There was no competition except the desire to all get to the 24th hour together.
We will be back in 2023.
