Swimming, joy and colourful toys

Ava has always loved the water, even getting in the bath is one of her favourite things. You can see how happy she is being free in the pool with 1-to-1 help from her swim teacher, Michelle. Ava used to have a swim jacket but prefers to be held. Ava has Williams syndrome. Her parents, Lizzie and Kieran always help her in to the pool because she doesn't like using the hoist. She can get out using the steps with support.

Swimming for Ava is crucial to help with her low muscle tone, although she is always tired afterwards it helps with her strength and flexibility, more than any other kind of movement. Ava swims with her school as well with 4 teachers helping all 12 children, but she has to rely on her swimming jacket to keep her afloat.

Michelle understands Ava's needs and loves to play her favourite games with colourful balls and toys. A platform in the pool also helps Ava to stand up where it's too deep, and gives her a place to jump in. Watching her joy really shows the power of swimming.
